Here in the photo are Rotarian Meg York with her guests Sharon and Scott Walker. The Walkers teach chorus and instrumental music at MSAD 70. Beside a slide show Sharon Walker spoke about adjusting to teaching to impoverished children in Aroostook County as compared to students in an affluent town in Massachusetts. Through a graduate level course Walker learned how music reaches these children in very important ways as they gain brain power, confidence and skills that lead to persistence in the tasks at hand. In grades four to twelve 52% of the student body are involved in music. The musical “Alice in Wonderland” was inspired by York’s persistence and the Walker’s enthusiastic involvement and 60 students at MSAD 70 are involved with this. The show is coming up the end of March or the first of April.
