In this photo are Rotarians Frank Thompson and Andy Mooers. At the March 27, 2017 meeting they gave the Houlton Rotary Club a description of what is involved with the Houlton Soap Box Derby and gave an account of some of its history. They even brought a thorough exhibit to the hall. Andy has been involved with the organization for many years and Frank is enjoying time with his grandchildren who are racing. There is more to just racing down the hill such as STEM, Science, Technology, English and Mathematics. Preparing for a race is where most of the time is spent and it is time well spent. The Houlton derby hill is the largest local hill in the country and the goal for most racers is the National event at Akron, Ohio. The first racer from Houlton to go to Akron was Wayne Miller in 1966 and the hill in Houlton is named for him.
